Part 3. Why do I stay with my wife?
Because God gave her to me as a gift. I am happy with my gift and I know He had her and me in mind when He planned our 4 daughters. Again, it is simple. I’m not with her because I love her (I do, but that is not a good enough reason – what happens if I don’t love her anymore?). I’m not with her because she makes me happy – it is not about her (or me in fact). It is simply because it was and is God’s plan. Anyway, why would God’s plan change just because I don’t love her anymore? In fact, when God says: Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. This doesn’t sound like we have a choice here. So, decide to love your wife – regardless of what she does! His plan was and is for us to raise Godly children (Mal 2:15). That makes my life very simple again. I am married to her and we HAVE to make it work because there is no other plan. We’re going to set an example to our children, follow God as a couple and testify about God’s goodness until we die. It is not always easy (please read our testimony) but that is God’s plan so we’ll follow it. The more we just do it, the better it becomes – praise God! I enjoy being married to Louwtjie. I remember 9 years ago when I was fed-up with her I went to God to complain. I asked Him to remind me again why He gave her to me. He said: “Because I want your grandchildren to have a good granny” Now be honest, do you think I could have come up with an answer like that? Who in his right mind thinks of his wife as a grandmother? Anyway, the more I thought about it, the more I realized, this is profound – she raised my daughters in a very special way and she’s going to have a major impact on the lives of my grandchildren! I got so excited. I decided to stick around to see this. Since then we have received a couple of beautiful grandchildren from God and man, you must see Louwtjie with them… I’m beginning to see God’s plan. I can see the influence we’re going to have on the little nation God started with just the two of us. The more I just do what God wants, the better it becomes. LOVE YOUR WIFE!
