Have you ever thought God is weird when He allows us to go through difficult times? Have you often wondered where God was when you really needed Him? Have you often wondered how God could ‘allow’ that? The other night I was watching “Touched by an Angel” and saw a different side of God. We often expect God to come to the rescue with ‘fire and brimstone’ but what if He is trying to teach us to go to the next level? Maybe we don’t know what the test is. Let’s put a different spin on this: Have you ever thought how ‘unfair’ it is when an Eagle kicks her young one out of the nest to fly? Can you imagine how unfair that must feel from the young one’s perspective? Can you imagine the talk at the dinner table where young eaglets grow up? Parents telling the young ones of the amazing flights they had today. Surely they must have the same desire for their young ones? Can you imagine if an eagle feels ‘sorry’ for their young ones and allow them to remain in the nest for 5 years? The poor eagle would be just that – poor.
Don’t you think God has the same desires for His children? That we grow up and experience the same things He does – through faith, and that is why He allows us to go through uncomfortable times where we have to use faith to come out the other side. Are these not the experiences that give us identity when we are at the next braai? Are these not the things that help us to remember how good God was when He brought us through this or that?
Are we not very proud of our own children when they can walk for the 1st time – forgetting the 300 times they failed before? How would we feel after their two hundred and fiftieth attempt if they said : “Sorry Dad, I won’t ever get this right – I am going to stop trying this ‘walk thing’ now”? I think God feels the same about us if we have a bad attitude while He is allowing us to grow through difficult times.
Can we start a bad experience with an attitude of : “I wonder what God wants me to learn?” rather than “Poor me!” and while going through it, look out for the little clues God is giving me to ‘win this one’ and what ‘outcome’ He has in mind for me.
Jer 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out-plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
