How have I become Who I am?

It is a common thought that we are the total of our choices but are we happy, or do you have some regrets? If you have regrets, please read on.

To put this in perspective, let’s look at someone else first. After all, it is a lot easier to look at others, and judge them from our position of strength, than to look at ourselves and ask: Is this the best version of myself?

Just to make sure we are not gossiping, let’s start our analysis with Adam.

  • Do you think he became the man God had intended?
I think God gave him everything to ensure success. He was made in God’s image and likeness, he had God as his personal friend who talked with him daily. He had job security and no care in the world.
Psa 139:14  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
Gen 1:27  So God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him.
  • What was his actual sin?
Was he just disobedient? Should he just have stopped doing it? Or did he do exactly the same thing Satan did before he was kicked out of heaven? Yes, pride got hold of Adam. He started thinking. He thought God was unfair. He thought God was withholding something from him. He thought he could make this decision without God.
  • How could he have handled it differently?
Adam’s spirit was in direct contact with the Holy Spirit and his soul was the tool God gave him to help him but now Adam started to think thoughts against God’s wishes for him. He elevated his soul above his spirit and then became so proud that he could come up with all these alternatives that he completely spoiled it for everyone born after him.
All he had to do was to go back to God and discuss the new alternative thoughts that he had, to get the perfect view on the whole situation.

Let’s ask ourselves the same questions and see if we can become who God intended.

The goal.
To become more like Jesus. 1 Th 5:23.

  • Who is in charge – your soul or your spirit?
  • Do you believe things about yourself or situations that are not true (according to God’s Word)?
  • Are your actions controlled by these beliefs?
  • Did God really make you like this or did you become this way because you were programmed to believe it?
